Published in February 2018, Banners of the Bold contains some 400 pages and 141 full-page colour plates, presenting heraldic banners connected with the Sovereign Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and of Malta (Order of Malta).
It opens with a dedication to Fra’ Matthew Festing, 79th Prince and Grand Master of the Order of Malta, and illustrates the banners of over 100 contemporary members of the Order, as well as 50 historical plates drawn from an important Tudor manuscript held at the College of Arms in London.
The volume is a treasure trove of historical, genealogical and heraldic detail; as well as the banner illustrations and descriptions, it includes often fascinating, and occasionally amusing, background information on many of the intertwining families represented in the book.
Banners of the Bold is the fruit of a collaboration between the late Peter Drummond-Murray and Anthony Lombardo Delarue, both Knights of Malta with an expertise in and passion for heraldry and heraldic drawing.
It will be produced to the highest standards, in a limited edition of 535 copies, with 35 collector’s copies in fine half-leather binding and slip case. A Reception will be held to launch the publication in February 2018.
